Plant Walk: Identifying Medicinal Plants of the Desert

  • Fountain Hills Botanical Garden 11300 North Fountain Hills Boulevard Fountain Hills, AZ, 85268 United States (map)

The Sonoran Desert has provided food, medicine, and shelter to the first people of this land for thousands of years. Did you know 60% of our plants are medicinal? In this exciting plant walk, you’ll learn to identify some of our favorite plants, as well as their ethnobotanical and contemporary uses in food and medicine. Bring your camera and a notebook! After this class, you’ll be able to impress your friends with your botanical knowledge!

Participants must be able to walk at least one mile on rocky desert terrain. The walk is easy, but if you use an assistive device please consider joining us for our plant walks on November 7 and December 5, which will be on a paved surface.

Candice is certified in wilderness first aid and austere medicine and will be prepared for your safety. If you have allergies or asthma, please do not forget your epi-pen, inhaler, or anything else that will keep you well.  Sturdy shoes and one liter of water are required, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended. Anyone arriving unprepared (sandals, no water) will be turned away without a refund.
